The Seoul Institute of Global Affairs (SIGA) visited ADA University in Baku and met with Prof. Anar Valiyev, Advisor to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs on 10 February 2026. The SIGA delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Bongchul Kim, President of SIGA, with the participation of Dr. Mehmet Fatih Oztarsu and Prof. Dr. Rovshan Ibrahimov of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on expanding academic cooperation between institutions in Korea and Azerbaijan. Particular attention was given to the development of student exchange opportunities and the establishment of non-resident fellow positions aimed at strengthening scholarly interaction between the two academic communities.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of identifying niche research areas that could further deepen Korea-Azerbaijan relations. In this regard, both sides agreed that targeted cooperation in emerging policy fields would allow researchers and institutions to contribute more effectively to the evolving partnership between the two countries.
Beyond existing academic links, the meeting explored potential collaboration in areas such as the green economy, smart city development, and digitalization. The participants discussed prospects for joint academic publications, the organization of conferences and seminars, and broader initiatives that could involve stakeholders from government, academia, and industry.
The meeting highlighted the shared interest of both sides in fostering sustained academic dialogue and developing practical avenues for cooperation that connect researchers, students, and policy communities in Korea and Azerbaijan.
