Bernardo Mariani is an international policy specialist with 30 years of experience advancing peace, security, and inclusive development across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. His expertise includes peace mediation, conflict prevention and peacebuilding, conventional arms control, humanitarian disarmament, and conflict-sensitive development, with a strong focus on regional and geopolitical dynamics.

He has worked at the intersection of civil society, governments, multilateral organisations, academia, and the private sector, supporting diplomacy and conflict resolution in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. He has led high-level international dialogues that bridge divides, build consensus, and shape policy in complex political and security environments, and has authored numerous publications tailored to policymakers, practitioners, and academic audiences.

He is a Senior Expert at Conflict Management Consulting (CMC) and a Researcher at the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (OIIP). He previously worked with the University of Edinburgh’s Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform and led the China and Eastern Europe programmes at Saferworld.

Bernardo Mariani is currently an Analyst and Advisor at the Seoul Institute of Global Affairs (SIGA).
